March 26, 2020 Dear members, adherents and friends of Harriston United, A lot has changed since the last update that was posted and so I wanted to keep you as up to date as I can.
As you have read, churches were not listed as essential services in the province of Ontario. Therefore, our building is officially closed to ALL including staff. The only person who is allowed in the building is our caretaker who can inspect the building for safety and security reasons.
Although a delicate subject, the financial obligations of the church continue. We thank you for your thoughtful and prayerful support of our church and the ministry we provide. If you are able to support the church through your finances at this time, cheques can be mailed to the church’s PO Box and will be passed on to our treasurer. As well, we have put a “donate” button on the homepage of our website for those who would like to donate online through Canada Helps.
Through the wonders of technology, worship is available in many places. This week Rev. Jessica is participating in the worship service for Grace United Church in Hanover. It can be found on local cable stations on Sundays – on Wightmans at 8:00am and 3:00pm as well as Eastlink at 5:00pm. The service can also be found on their church’s YouTube channel – just search for Grace United Hanover.
On Thursdays at 2:00pm, I have been offering a short devotional time on Facebook Live. If you are not on Facebook, these can be accessed through the link on the “worship” page on our church website.
I continue to work from home and can be reached either at my home telephone number or by my work email. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to. As always, I am holding you all in my prayers daily. Even though our building in closed for the next while, we know that the work of the church continues. Thank you for being the church in the world and in our community. Thank you for loving one another and reaching out. Thank you for being a reflection of God’s love in this unusual and uncertain time. Blessings, Rev. Jessica Cottrell
